ASSUME? NEVER!
When Gloria Steinem was
invited to give a speech at Smith College, she related an important life lesson
learned during her time as a student. On
a geology field trip, she saw a very large turtle that had hauled itself out of
the Connecticut River, up a couple of embankments, apparently on a trajectory
to the roadway. Out of concern for the
turtle’s safety, she turned it around – pushing, shoving and hauling that
clearly upset amphibian back to the river.
When Gloria completed her
mission, the geology professor informed her that this turtle had likely spent
weeks of exhausting effort climbing those river embankments. And just as it was near its nesting spot, it
had been turned around. Afterwards Gloria
wrote, “I realized an important life-lesson: Always ask the turtle.”
When we assume knowledge or
insight into the life-situations of others, it is possible that, at the very
least, we will draw conclusions that are incomplete, and perhaps totally
inaccurate. Never assume. Communicate.
Sisters and brothers, be continually blessed, and please (above
all else) MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY TO MEET OUR SOON COMING KING.
Maranatha!
