WHERE ARE YOU?

WHERE ARE YOU?

In search of true identity and purpose, we sometimes make life-changing errors.  Such was the case with our fore-parents, Adam and Eve.  Prayerfully consider their post-fall plight:

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.  But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:8-9)

Ironically, GOD had already issued a crystal-clear overview of their roles, rights and responsibilities.  Nevertheless, though they were created in the image and likeness of God, they made a poor choice, i.e. to believe, embrace and elevate the base lies of the deceiver – over and above the Word and will of God. (Genesis chapter 3, et al)

As a direct result, the first couple (that God intended to live forever with Him) was absolutely lost.  They earned an immediate sentence of spiritual death and a future appointment with the grave.

Remember this.  After their sin, the Creator was not in search of Adam’s location when He asked “Where are you?”  Rather, God was referring to man’s newly fallen state.  Unfortunately, their sins could not be hidden in a dying shroud of fig leaves because the omnipresent and omniscient Creator had full knowledge and awareness of their spiritual departure.  Likewise, Almighty God surely sees and knows us.

Sometimes, a man might try to hide in his career, in the womb of his family, in the comfort of his home, in the fellowship of friends, or even inside illegal drugs and empty alcohol bottles.  It never works.

At the end of the day, YOU ARE STILL YOU…AND YOU ARE STILL THERE.

Solution?  If we would only allow ourselves to become “hidden in Christ,” our spiritual blindness would be remedied by The Light. (Colossians 3:3)  And we would never have to run away again, nor would we have to discover the impossibility of hiding our past (or our present) from an all-knowing God.

Bottom-line: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)  Our decision is simply that we are in Christ, and Christ is in us, “yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)  Where are you?

A VIRTUOUS WOMAN - A VIRTUOUS WIFE

A VIRTUOUS WOMAN – A VIRTUOUS WIFE

The Word of our Lord describes the attitudes, actions and character traits of a virtuous woman:

Proverbs 31:10-31 (NKJV)
10 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13 She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships, she brings her food from afar.
15 She also rises while it is yet night, and provides food for her household, and a portion for her maidservants.
16 She considers a field and buys it; from her profits she plants a vineyard.
17 She girds herself with strength, and strengthens her arms.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is good, and her lamp does not go out by night.
19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff, and her hand holds the spindle.
20 She extends her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household is clothed with scarlet.
22 She makes tapestry for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies sashes for the merchants.
25 Strength and honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.”
30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Although some of the language and duties might differ from contemporary times, this is a marvelous portrayal of womanhood to which all may rightly aspire.

A MOTHER'S LOVE

A MOTHER’S LOVE

This past Sunday was a very special day, “Mother’s Day.”  We paused to celebrate mothers everywhere, those who have birthed, mentored and guided with unconventional wisdom and unconditional love.  The following story says it all.

“Can I see my baby?” a happy new mother asked.  When the precious bundle was nestled in her arms, she moved the fold of cloth to look upon his tiny face, and then she gasped.  The doctor turned quickly, looking out the hospital room window.  Her baby had been born without ears.  Time proved that the baby’s hearing was perfect in spite of the apparent defect.  Only his appearance was marred.  When he rushed home from school one day and cried in his mother’s arms, she sighed deeply, knowing his life would be a succession of heartbreaks.

The young boy blurted out his tragedy: “A boy, a big boy, called me a freak.”  He grew up and was quite handsome, despite his misfortune.  A favorite with his fellow students, he might have been class president, but for his appearance.  He developed a gift, a real talent for literature and music.  “You should mingle more with other young people,” his mother reproved him, but felt nothing but love and kindness in her heart.

The boy’s father had a session with the family physician.  Could nothing be done?  “I believe I could graft on a pair of outer ears, if they could be procured,” the doctor decided.  Whereupon the search began for a person who would make such a major sacrifice for a young man.  Two years went by.  Then, “You are going to the hospital, son.  Mother and I have someone who will donate the ears you need.  But it’s a secret” said the father.

The operation was a brilliant success, and a brand new person emerged.  His talents blossomed into genius, and school and college became a series of triumphs.  Later he married and entered the diplomatic service.  “But I must know!” He urged his father.  “Who gave so much for me?  I could never do enough for him.”

“I do not believe you could,” said the father, “but the agreement was that you are not to know...not yet.”  The years kept their profound secret, but the day did come, one of the darkest days that ever pass through a son.  He stood with his father over his mother’s casket.  Slowly, tenderly, the father stretched forth a hand and raised the thick, reddish-brown hair to reveal that the mother had no outer ears.

“Mother said she was glad she never let her hair be cut,” he whispered gently, “and nobody ever thought mother less beautiful, did they?”

Real beauty lies not in the physical appearance, but in the heart.  Real treasure lies not in what that can be seen, but what that cannot be seen.  Real love lies not in what is done and known, but in that which is done but not known.

We may never know the sacrifices our mothers have endured to bring us to where we are.

ENDTIMES PROPHECIES: THE IMMINENT RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST - Part X

ENDTIMES PROPHECIES: THE IMMINENT RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST - Part X

JESUS CHRIST will return to Earth soon…very soon.  This is the final installment of our end-times series.  It highlights the eternal joys of Heaven and the God-given rewards for the righteous.

Let’s begin by sharing an awesome announcement.  If you are born again, you are already a resident of Heaven by faith, for the Bible declares that (right now) we are seated “together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:6)  winner-believer (that’s what I call Christians)…don’t wait until the battle is over; you can shout now!  For you know, in the end, you’re going to win! (Romans 8:37)

Let’s take a quick peek inside Heaven, shall we?  It is the uniquely beautiful and blessed dwelling place of Almighty God. (Isaiah 66:1 – Matthew 6:9)  Heaven is also the future home of all faithful disciples who will enter into everlasting union with the Church’s Bridegroom, Jesus Christ. (Revelation 19:9 – Revelation 21:9)  It is a place of awesome majesty and superlative splendor because Heaven’s designing architect is GOD. (Hebrews 11:10)  Indeed, it is the “Father’s house,” comprised of a capital city called “New Jerusalem,” containing the Throne Room of God, a multitude of indescribable mansions and incredible ‘creative surprises’ for the saints.  According to God’s Word, “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” (John 14:2-3 – Revelation 21:2-3 – Hebrews 9:11-15 – I Corinthians 2:9)  WOW!  I can hardly wait to see what THE CREATOR has in store for US!

WHO and WHAT will be ABSENT FROM HEAVEN?  There will be no temple and no artificial lights in Heaven since the Lamb of God will be all that is needed for perfect light and worship.  Unregenerate persons will also be excluded, notably adulterers, fornicators, idolaters, sorcerers, haters, murderers, drunkards, liars, the unclean, the lewd, the fearful, the unbelieving, the abominable, the effeminate, along with all who embrace contentiousness, jealousy, envy, wrath, selfishness, heresy, self-abuse or rowdiness. (Galatians 5:19-21 – Revelation 21:8 – I Corinthians 6:9)  Sickness, sadness, sorrowful tears, pain and death are all also notably absent. (Revelation 22:2 – Revelation 21:14)  And there will be no curse of any kind in Heaven. (Revelation 22:3)  Absolutely nothing shall enter the holy city that will defile it in any way. (Revelation 21:27)

WHO and WHAT will be PRESENT IN HEAVEN?
--It is reserved for any redeemed person who “walks uprightly, works righteousness and speaks the truth in his heart.” (Psalm 15:1-2)
--The glory of God will be manifested and on continual display there. (Colossians 3:4)  Peace and rest will surely be there. (Hebrews 4:9)
--The “river of water of life” will be there. (Revelation 22:1)
--The “tree of life” will also be there, containing leaves that are good for “the healing of the nations.” (Revelation 22:2)
--Priceless treasures of every kind will be there as well. (Matthew 6:20 – Luke 12:33)  Righteousness will be there. (II Peter 3:13)
--A “multitude which no man could number” will be present and accounted for in Heaven. (Revelation 7:9)
--Continuous praise and worship will take place there. (Revelation 5:8-14)
--The angelic host will be there. (Isaiah 6:1-3)
--Twenty-four elders (both old and new covenant saints) will be there. (Revelation 4:4)
--The names of the saints will be inscribed in Heaven. (Hebrews 12:23)
--The names of the twelve tribes of Israel will also be inscribed on the gates of Heaven. (Revelation 21:12)
--We will walk on streets of transparent gold in Heaven, with no potholes, imperfections, or impurities. (Revelation 21:21)
--Twelve tremendous pearly gates will serve as entry points to the New Jerusalem. (Revelation 21:13)
--The New Jerusalem will also have twelve foundations made of precious sparkling stones: jasper, sapphire, chalcedony, emerald, sardonyx, sardius, chysolite, beryl, topaz, chrysoprase, jacinth and amethyst.
--The New Jerusalem will be a city “foursquare,” i.e. a perfect paradise that is equal in all its dimensions, measuring 1,500 miles in length, width and height. (Revelation 21:15-16)  WOW!

Consider this.  Population experts disagree on the number of humans that have inhabited our planet since the beginning of time.  However, none of these experts estimate the total number to be greater than 100 billion people.  An architect friend of mine calculated the approximate square footage of The New Jerusalem, based upon its biblical design and description.  The New Jerusalem is a marvelous, majestic and monumental wonder – and its size is beyond huge!  Assuming the maximum (that there were 100 billion inhabitants of Earth since the beginning) and factoring in the 1,500 mile length, width and height of the city, there would still be sufficient room within Heaven’s capital city for every person who ever lived to receive a grace-title to a mansion in excess of 100,000 square feet.  WOW!  We should collectively shout, “REHOBOTH,” for God has certainly made room for all of us – sufficient space for all those who have accepted Him, and even enough room for all those who have willfully rejected Him! (Genesis 26:22)  Our presence (or absence) there will be totally on us.

Just think: Because of God’s presence and power, all of the vast universe will be accessible to be traveled by us, for “we shall be like HIM,” the Risen Savior, who had the capability to transport Himself instantaneously, and even to walk through walls! (III John 1:1-2 - John 20:19;26)  WOW!

What REWARDS will be available in Heaven?  In the final chapter of Revelation, Christ issues this notification and challenge: “Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” (Revelation 22:12 and II Corinthians 5:10)  Unhappily, some believers will experience a loss of rewards (although they are indeed saved by grace through faith), based upon their self-serving underlying motives for Kingdom service, or a profound lack of service to the Lord. (I Corinthians 3:10-15)  So remember this: Work diligently and consistently to build Christ’s Kingdom.  But always do whatever you are doing as unto the Lord, and not for personal recognition or personal glory.

FIVE DISTINCTIVE CROWNS (or more) will be awarded in Heaven at the Bema, which is the Judgment Seat of Christ (II Corinthians 5:10):

- A CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS will be awarded to all who love Christ’s appearing. (II Timothy 4:8)
- AN INCORRUPTIBLE CROWN will be awarded to those who have disciplined their bodies and demonstrated self-control, a fruit of the Spirit. (I Corinthians 9:25-27 - Galatians 5:20-22)
- A CROWN OF LIFE will be awarded to those who have patiently endured trials and tribulations. (Revelation 2:10)
- A CROWN OF GLORY will be awarded to those Godly leaders who have served as examples to the flock. (I Peter 5:2-4)
- A CROWN OF REJOICING, a.k.a. THE SOUL WINNERS CROWN will be awarded to all who have served as midwives for spiritual births in the Kingdom of God. (I Thessalonians 2:19 – Daniel 12:3)

In addition to all of these, SPECIFIC REWARDS AND PHENOMENAL RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE CONFERRED ON OVERCOMERS BY OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST! (Revelation 2:7 – Revelation 2:17 – Revelation 2:26 – Revelation 3:5 – Revelation 3:21 – Revelation 21:7)  WOW!

My final word to every believer is simply this: Be encouraged.  Keep your eyes on the prize.  We must never allow any person or thing to separate us from the love of God. (Romans 8:35-39)  Indeed, it is a matter of life or death.  So, as the Word admonishes us, “Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:9)

Jesus Christ will return soon – very soon – to rapture the Church and to judge us all.  Never doubt it.

Pastor Andrae Crouch penned a poignant message (many years ago) that is even more timely today:
It won’t be long…when we’ll be leaving here…
It won’t be long…we’ll be going home…
Count the years as months…
Count the months as weeks…
Count the weeks as days…
Any day now…we’ll be going home.

So whatever you are experiencing in life, success, abundance, challenges, pressure or pain…“count it all joy.”  Indeed, it will be worth it all when we see JESUS. (James 1:2-4)  In the words of the Apostle Paul, “I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” (Romans 8:18)  My heart’s desire is to hear a heavenly and eternal commendation from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ: “Well done, good and faithful servant: you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter into the joy of your lord.” (Matthew 25:21)  Amen!

Your faithful participation and support of this ten part end-times series is highly appreciated; and, I pray that it has proven to be both an inspirational and informative experience.

Sisters and brothers, be continually blessed, and please (above all else) MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY TO MEET OUR SOON COMING KING.  Maranatha!

ENDTIMES PROPHECIES: THE IMMINENT RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST - Part IX

ENDTIMES PROPHECIES: THE IMMINENT RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST - Part IX

THE HOLY SPIRIT proclaims the urgent message that JESUS CHRIST will return very soon.  Two postings remain for our end-times series.  The final entry (tomorrow) highlights the eternal joys of Heaven and the God-given rewards for the righteous.  Today’s devotional describes the final judgment of unsaved individuals, along with the nature of (and reasons for) the eternal punishment of all persons who willfully reject Christ.

The underlying reason for today’s discourse is to offer a clear-cut response to a familiar question with humanistic roots and satanic origins.  Which is: How could a LOVING GOD condemn anyone to HELL?

Firstly, it is important to note that “all souls” must and shall be judged by their Creator, ALMIGHTY GOD. (Ezekiel 18:4)  Since the sins of the saints have already been adjudicated and absolved by the atoning grace of Calvary, our Kingdom works and motives (only) will be judged in Heaven at the Bema, “the judgment seat of Christ.” (I Corinthians 3:11-13 – II Corinthians 5:10 – Romans 14:10)  Seven years later, all sinners will be summoned to The Great White Throne Judgment where their entire lives will be reviewed, evaluated and judged. (Revelation 20:11-15)  In one way or another, ALL of us must account for the choices made in this life, as has been scripturally established by Jesus Christ:

Matthew 25:31-33 (NKJV)
When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.

Secondly, it is necessary to define “hell” so that we may gain a fuller understanding of its nature and its purpose.  The scriptures tell us that “God is love” and “God is light.” (I John 4:8 and I John 1:5)  To wit, in its most basic definition, hell is actually eternal exile from Almighty God, who is the ultimate embodiment of “love” and “light.”  In other words, every occupant of hell will cease to sense or experience the loving and enlightening presence of God.  As such, Jesus Christ described hell as a place of “outer darkness” where “there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 8:12)

Above all, we must emphasize the fact that hell is mentioned frequently by Jesus Christ, so there can be no reasonable or rightful disputation of its existence or purpose.  There are numerous examples in the teachings of Jesus.  According to Jesus, the man who maliciously insults his brother is “in danger of hell fire.” (Matthew 5:22)  Also according to Jesus, the greatest sin of the scribes and Pharisees was making their converts “twofold more the child of hell” than themselves. (Matthew 23:15)  Also according to Jesus, “every tree which brings not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.” (Matthew 3:10 – Luke 3:9)  Also according to Jesus, HE “will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.” (Luke 3:17)

Even when Christ commissioned his disciples to spread the gospel initially in teams of two, he admonished them, “Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul; but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28)  Jesus referred to hell utilizing the Hebrew term, “Gehenna,” which brought to mind the Valley of Hinnom for the contemporaries of Christ, which was a fiery and smelly garbage dump located outside of Jerusalem.  Indeed, Jesus sought to depict a most sobering and graphic picture of hell as an eternal judgment which carries a sentence without any possibility of parole or opportunity for appeal.

Even the parables of Jesus, His primary mode of teaching, emphasized the existence of hell: The Parable of the Tares and the Wheat (Matthew 13:24-30), The Parable of the Net (Matthew 13:47-50), The Parable of the Wedding Feast (Matthew 22:2-14), The Parable of the Faithful and Evil Servants (Matthew 24:42-51), and The Parable of the Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1-3), all of which allude to hell.  And Christ’s teachings on hell are echoed by the apostles. (II Peter 2:1-9 – II Thessalonians 1:7-9 – Revelation 20:9-15)  Moreover, Jesus Christ Himself posed a most important question for every person to soberly consider: “What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36)  Losing one’s soul does not imply a total cessation of existence, but a complete denial of supernatural grace, the very love and light of God by which we were created and for which we were eternally intended.

HOW, then, does one manage to wind up in hell?  Is it due to the cruel actions of a heartless Creator, or is it due to one’s personal choice?  The answer is quite simple.  Hell was never designed or intended for any of us.  Jesus will make this perfectly clear in that fateful moment when He will dispatch lost souls to eternal punishment: “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” (Matthew 25:41)  In other words, one’s entry into hell is based solely on a personal choice, i.e. one’s tragic decision to reject the Son of God (during the short span of time we call life) in exchange for the so-called “pleasures of sin” and an eventual punishment of eternity without God. (Hebrews 11:25)

Jesus Christ portrays this as a crystal clear choice: “He that believes on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him.” (John 3:36)  To sum it up, if we wind up in hell, we have to go there OVER the Father’s gift of His Son, OVER the Son’s gift of His life, OVER the teaching of the gospel, OVER the continual entreating of the Holy Spirit through our consciences and through the voices of others, and OVER God’s original purpose, destiny and design for us.  It is an awesome choice, but it is ours and ours alone: to believe, or not to believe; to accept, or not to accept.  The choice is so clear-cut, so obvious, so easy, yet so essential and weighty since it carries eternal consequences.

John 3:18-20 (NKJV)
He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

Nevertheless, WHY is hell necessary?  Believe it or not, hell is an extension of God's covenantal grace.  Consider this.  If God allowed those who reject Him (those who willfully defile themselves and others) to enter into Heaven, then it would be an absolute denial of His promised Heavenly benefits to believers.  If God did that (as they who critique His final judgment as ‘merciless’ would have Him do), HEAVEN WOULD NOT BE HEAVEN for those who truly love and follow Him – because the unconverted would bring their hellish ways and deeds into The New Jerusalem.  Think about it.  If anyone goes to hell, it is because he or she nurtures and sustains hell within their body, mind and spirit.

There is another important consideration.  God’s attributes are perfect and eternal.  God’s love is perfect; so also is God’s justice; so also God’s wrath.  Our God certainly cannot lie.  Neither can our God act in an unjust or arbitrary manner. (Numbers 23:19 – Deuteronomy 32:4 – Titus 1:2)  So here is the thing: GOD has measured out a perfect salvation to every man by meting out a perfect justice upon a perfect scapegoat for sin, His Son, Jesus Christ.  God’s intention was/is never to condemn any human being to hell.  It bears repetition: God’s intention was/is never to condemn any human being to hell.  The Word declares that God is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (II Peter 3:9)  However, when we choose to reject God’s perfect remedy for our sins (the sacrificial and substitutionary atonement of Jesus Christ), we make the deliberate choice to become eligible recipients of the perfect wrath of God.  To wit, it is our choice, not God’s. (Joshua 24:15)

Hell represents a permanent loss of the goodness and grace of God.  It is both the ABSENCE OF GOD (which causes THE SOUL to be forever lost, miserable and unfulfilled) and the PUNISHMENT OF GOD (which causes THE BODY to reside eternally in a place of unimaginable torment).  Consider this.  The lost will actually SEE JESUS face-to-face, but then they will be deprived forever of His presence and His glory.  That fact alone will make hell much more hellish!  Don’t you dare go there!  Stay prayerfully attentive as our end-times series progresses…more to come!

Sisters and brothers, be continually blessed, and please (above all else) MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY TO MEET OUR SOON COMING KING. Maranatha!

ENDTIMES PROPHECIES: THE IMMINENT RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST - Part VIII

ENDTIMES PROPHECIES: THE IMMINENT RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST - Part VIII

Brothers and sisters, JESUS CHRIST will return soon…very soon!  Let’s briefly recap what we have learned.  For the sake of clarity, we utilize the terms, “PHASE ONE” and “PHASE TWO” to describe the SECOND COMING OF CHRIST.  PHASE ONE is THE RAPTURE and PHASE TWO is THE GLORIOUS APPEARANCE.  Some scriptures refer to the first event; some refer to the second.  THE RAPTURE is for a select group of people, THE CHURCH.  Christ will return soon and reveal Himself to His people.  This event will be accomplished in absolute secrecy, and the world will wonder: ‘What has happened and where are the missing people?’ (Matthew 24:37-42)  At the Rapture, Christ will arrive mid-air to receive and transport believers to the “Father’s house,” in fulfillment of His promise. (John 14:1-3)

THE GLORIOUS APPEARANCE, on the other hand, is for EVERYONE.  Hence, it will be a globally observed event, which will occur at the end of The Tribulation Period.  In this second phase, “every eye shall see Him.” (Revelation 1:7)  Approximately seven years after The Rapture, Christ will return to earth with great glory.  He will set down on the Mount of Olives; He will defeat Satan, the Antichrist, the false prophet and all their followers; He will establish His earthly kingdom; and, He will ultimately judge fallen humanity.  And HE shall reign “for ever and ever.” Hallelujah! (Luke 1:33 and Revelation 11:15)

Today’s lesson is a detailed accounting of the events that will take place immediately before, during and after THE GLORIOUS APPEARANCE OF JESUS CHRIST. They are summarized below:

EVENTS OF THE GLORIOUS APPEARANCE:

--A mid-east peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinians will be negotiated and signed.  This treaty is prophetically identified as ‘THE CONFIRMATION OF THE ABRAHAMIC COVENANT.’ (Genesis 12:1-2 – Genesis 15:18-21 – Daniel 9:27)  The Antichrist will use the false peace that will emerge as a means of destroying many. (Daniel 8:23-25)

--The third Jerusalem Temple will be constructed. (Daniel 9:27 – Revelation 11:1-2)  Jesus Christ, Daniel, Paul, and John all refer to the temple in the last days; therefore, we know that it certainly will be rebuilt.

--Temple sacrifices will be reinstituted in Israel. (Daniel 9:27 – Daniel 12:11)  Daniel prophesied that the Antichrist will eventually terminate these daily sacrifices. Inn order for this to occur, the Jewish sacrificial system must have (first) been restored.  FYI, The Temple Institute has already created the temple furniture, vessels, and priestly garments, even the necessary blueprints for temple construction.  Currently, there are several hundred young Jewish men in training for the Levitical priesthood and the resumption of animal sacrifices.

--A one-world global government will be formed. (Daniel 2:40-44 – Daniel 7:23 – Revelation 13:7-8)  This is actually the revived Holy Roman Empire, which will encompass and dominate the world system.  The European Union has steadily moved forward in its attempt to unite Europe politically and economically.  So far, it has succeeded in creating a European parliament, a court, and a common currency.

--Many people in this final generation of human history will be open to receiving a mark on their right hands or foreheads as a sign of allegiance to the Antichrist.  This could be easily facilitated by modern identification and tracking technology.  All those who do not take the mark of the beast (666) will be unable to participate in the global economy, i.e. they will not be able to buy or sell anything. (Revelation 13:11-18)

--Babylon (formerly called Babel in Genesis 10:10) will re-emerge in the land of Shinar, known today as the nation of Iraq. (Isaiah 13)  According to the Word of God, this city will be destroyed in one day. (Isaiah 21:9 – Jeremiah 51:8 – Revelation 14:8 – Revelation 18:2)

--Jerusalem will become a “cup of trembling” and a “burdensome stone” to all nations. (Zechariah 12:2-3)  We hear frequent news reports on the political conflict surrounding Jerusalem.  The United Nations, the Vatican, and many world leaders (including the government of the USA) are intent on making Jerusalem an international city.  However, GOD says that Jerusalem is HIS, that He has assigned it to the children of Abraham, and that His name shall be there forever. (Genesis 15:18 – Leviticus 25:23 – II Chronicles 6:6)

--Many nations will unite in an attempt to conquer Israel. (Psalm 83:4-8 – Zechariah 12:2)  Russia (Magog and Gog) will re-emerge as a military power and become a leader in the attack on Israel.  We are currently witnessing the re-emergence of Russia as a world power, many years after the dissolution of the former Soviet Union.  Their recent quest to annex strategic portions (perhaps all) of the Ukraine is clear evidence of this.  Russia will be joined in this attack against Israel by Iran (Persia), Sudan (Cush), Libya (Put), Turkey (Meschech, Tubal, Gomer, Togarmah), Ethiopia, other Arab/Islamic nations, along with the “kings from the east,” who will deploy an army of 200 million soldiers to attack Israel. (Ezekiel 38 – Revelation 9:14-16 – Revelation 16:12)

--The Euphrates River will be “dried up” and will become a military staging area and entry point into Israel. (Revelation 16:12) Interestingly enough, the massive Ataturk Dam in Turkey, completed in 1990, has the ability to hold back the Euphrates and to totally dry up its river bed.

--Israel will remain invincible because it will be under divine covenant and protection. (Genesis 12:1-3 – Genesis 15:18 – Zechariah 12:6-9)  Since 1948, tiny Israel has been attacked in three major wars and several lesser wars. Despite being vastly outnumbered, they have defeated all attacking foes.  Even during the final conflict, when it will appear that Israel could be annihilated, the Lord will deliver her miraculously. (Jeremiah 30:3-7 – Zechariah 14 – Mark 13:14-20)  Logically speaking, an invincible Israel makes no common sense or military sense, unless one believes in the Word of God.

[NOTE: The following is not intended to be a ‘slam’ against the largest branch of the institutional church, but it is a prophetic fact].

--Either the present or future head of the Roman Catholic Church (The Pope) is the most likely candidate to become The False Prophet, who will work in conjunction with The Antichrist to form a One World Church (“Mystery Babylon”) that will be inclusive of all religions.  He will be empowered by Satan to perform impressive signs and wonders, including calling down fire from Heaven.  Eventually, the One World Church will worship The Antichrist exclusively. (Revelation 17 – Revelation 18:7 – Revelation 13:11-15)

--The Glorious Appearance of Jesus Christ will occur immediately after the seven-year Tribulation Period. (Matthew 24:29)

--The Glorious Appearance will be preceded by unprecedented changes in the sun, moon and stars. (Joel 2:30 and Matthew 24:29)

[NOTE: You can read my previous devotional series on “The Blood Moons” to gain insight into how visible astronomical events have aligned in the past (and will align in the near future) with the Covenant Feasts of Israel.  Alternatively, you might Google “The Blood Moons” or view related film clips on Youtube.com.  These are very powerful and visible indicators of Christ’s imminent return].

--Jerusalem’s Eastern Gate will remain closed until the Messiah returns.  After His Glorious Appearing, Jesus Christ will enter Jerusalem through the permanently sealed Eastern Gate. (Ezekiel 44:1-3)

--The “Sign of the Son of Man” will appear in the heavens, visible to every person worldwide.  Most likely, this sign will be THE CROSS. (Matthew 24:30)

--Heaven will open and Jesus Christ will appear (visibly to the entire world) riding on a white horse. (Revelation 19:11-16)

--Jesus Christ will be followed by the armies of heaven. (Revelation 19:14)

--Jesus Christ will touch down on the earth with great power and glory. (Matthew 24:30)

--Unbelievers will mourn, for they will immediately realize that they are not ready to receive or to be judged by Christ. (Matthew 24:30)

--The Beast (the Antichrist) and his armies will confront Jesus Christ at the Battle of Armageddon. (Revelation 17:14 – Revelation 19:19)

--All who have rejected Jesus Christ and survived the Tribulation Period will be killed, along with the armies that oppose Him, who will be destroyed by “the sword,” i.e. the Word of His mouth. (Revelation 19:21)

--Jesus Christ will cast the Beast (The Antichrist) and the False Prophet into the lake of fire. (Revelation 19:20)

--Satan will be cast into the bottomless pit and chained for one thousand years. (Revelation 20:1-3)

--The Resurrection of the Old Testament saints and Tribulation saints will occur. (Revelation 20:4)

--Christ will judge the nations and the wicked (with the assistance of the saints) and His Kingdom will be established forever. (Matthew, chapter 25 – Revelation 11:15 – Revelation 22:5)

There are two remaining devotional posts for this end-times series.  The next devotional will address the related issues of God’s final judgment and the nature of (and reasons for) the eternal punishment of the wicked.  Our final devotional will highlight the eternal joys of Heaven and the rewards for the righteous.  Stay prayerfully attentive as our end-times series progresses…more to come!

ENDTIMES PROPHECIES: THE IMMINENT RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST - Part VI

ENDTIMES PROPHECIES: THE IMMINENT RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST - Part VI

THE HOLY SPIRIT continues to proclaim the urgent message of CHRIST's imminent return.  Today, we commence our detailed discussion of THE RAPTURE OF THE CHURCH.  We acknowledge the existence of three major perspectives pertaining to this prophetic and historic event: 1) Pre-Tribulation Rapture, 2) Mid-Tribulation Rapture and 3) Post-Tribulation Rapture.  Regarding Christ’s return, the timing of each is obvious. Let’s take a closer look.

The least commonly held view is the MID-TRIBULATION RAPTURE, whose proponents believe Christ will return for His Church approximately 3½ YEARS AFTER the signing of a mid-east peace treaty that is prophetically identified as ‘The Confirmation of the Abrahamic Covenant.’ (Daniel 9:27)  Those who hold this view believe the Church must pass through a severe period of “persecution.” (II Timothy 3:12)  They believe such persecution will occur during the first half of The Tribulation, but Christ will then return to prevent His people from experiencing the worst part of divine wrath, known as The Great Tribulation (the final 3½ years).  They also point to scriptures that predict momentous tribulation for the nation of Israel.  However, this leads to a major error in Biblical interpretation, for they fail to distinguish the NATION ISRAEL from SPIRITUAL ISRAEL.  While the two are certainly connected, they are not one and the same.  Indeed, the NATION ISRAEL WILL experience the Tribulation Period, but the manifold grace of God will prevail for their security and salvation. (Revelation 7:1-14)  SPIRITUAL ISRAEL will NOT be present during “the time of Jacob's trouble.” (Jeremiah 30:7)  Therefore, this view of Christ’s return is in error.

The second most commonly held view is that of a POST-TRIBULATION RAPTURE, which holds that Christ will return for His Church AT THE END of the seven-year Tribulation Period.  Proponents of this view contend that the scriptures specify that Christ's return occurs at the sounding of “the LAST trumpet.” (I Corinthians 15:52)  They believe that this trumpet sound is synonymous with that of Revelation 11:15, when “the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord.”  On the surface, this seems to be a valid argument, but it is actually erroneous since “the last trumpet” (I Thessalonians 4:16 and I Corinthians 15:52) is the “trumpet of God,” which is the conclusive call at the end of The Church Age for a prepared people who will now meet their Savior face-to-face in the air.  On the other hand, the trumpet sound of Revelation 11:15 is ‘an angel’s trumpet,’ which simply heralds the start of “the third woe” that rains down final judgments upon the rejecters of Christ and enemies of God. (Revelation 11:14-18)

The third and most commonly held view is that of a PRE-TRIBULATION RAPTURE, i.e. that Christ will return for His Church AT THE BEGINNING of the seven-year Tribulation Period.  This is my personal view and that of the majority of prophecy scholars and teachers, one which is clearly supported in scripture.  At Christ’s coming, deceased believers will be resurrected and living believers will be changed instantaneously. (I Thessalonians 4:13-18)  The most compelling argument for a Pre-Tribulation Rapture is found in the prophetic writings of Daniel.  During Daniel’s seventieth week (The 7-Year Tribulation), the Word declares that the people of God “shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.” (Daniel 9:24; 12:1)  Although some people will be saved during The Tribulation (especially Jews), which is a manifestation of God’s abundant grace, the primary emphasis of The Tribulation Period is the outpouring of God’s wrath. (Revelation 6:16-17; 11:18; 14:19 and Zephaniah 1:15;18) Clearly, the Word informs believers that we are “NOT appointed…to wrath,” but unto salvation by Jesus. Christ. (I Thessalonians 5:9)  Therefore, simple logic suggests that the Church should be (and must be) absent during this time of God’s great wrath.

After the Rapture, Christians will “appear before the judgment seat of Christ.” (II Corinthians 5:10)  However, this will not be a judgment (in the sense of a criminal trial) to determine guilt or innocence, since at Calvary’s cross all our sins were judged and punished via the substitutionary sacrifice of our Savior.  Rather, it will be a judgment of Kingdom works and our underlying motives for the same.  Various crowns and rewards will be distributed accordingly. (I Corinthians 3:11-13)

Now that we understand ‘WHEN’ The Rapture will occur (relative to the events of The Tribulation Period), let’s look more closely at the ‘WHAT,’ the ‘WHO’ and the 'HAPPENINGS' surrounding Christ’s return, (Phase One of His 2nd Coming).  He will not touch down on the earth at this time, but will do so at the close of the Tribulation Period and the commencing of the Battle of Armageddon (Phase Two of His 2nd Coming).

First and foremost, no one knows the exact timing of His imminent (Phase one) appearance.  Jesus Christ warns that “the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Luke 12:40)

The term, “Rapture” does not appear in the scriptures, but it is derived from a 4th century translation of the Greek word, “harpadzo,” which suggests that believers in Christ will be “caught up.”  There is scriptural precedence for this: “Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.” (Genesis 5:24, NIV)  If God did it before (for one righteous man), He can certainly do it again for all those who are declared to be “the righteousness of God.” (II Corinthians 5:21)

WHO will participate in The Rapture?  The Apostle Paul said Christ will return for “a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing…holy and without blemish.” (Ephesians 5:27)  Therefore, now is “the time that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?” (I Peter 4:17-18)  Nevertheless, we fully appreciate the fact that our right standing with God is accomplished (ONLY) through the blood and power of The Risen Christ!

Much confusion surrounds the interpretation of these end-times events because the Bible actually describes two separate and distinct occurrences.  For the sake of clarity, let’s label them as follows: Phase One and Phase Two of the Second Coming of Christ.  Phase One is THE RAPTURE.  Phase Two is THE GLORIOUS APPEARANCE.  The distinctiveness of each phase is quite evident in scripture.

THE RAPTURE is for a very select group of people, the Church.  That is, Christ will return soon and will reveal Himself (only) to His people.  As such, this event will be accomplished in absolute secrecy, thereby causing the whole world to wonder afterwards: ‘What has happened and where are the missing people?’ (Matthew 24:37-42)  During the Rapture, Christ arrives suddenly (mid-air) to receive and transport us to the “Father’s house” in fulfillment of His promise. (John 14:1-3)  There we shall appear before the Judgment Seat of Christ and there we shall also participate in the “Marriage Supper of the Lamb” because we are the espoused “bride of Christ.” (II Corinthians 5:8-10 and Revelation 19:9 and John 3:29)

On the other hand, THE GLORIOUS APPEARANCE is a totally public and globally observed event, which will occur at the close of The Great Tribulation.  In this instance, “every eye shall see Him.” (Revelation 1:7)  Exactly seven years after The Rapture, Christ will return to the earth with great glory; He will set down on the Mount of Olives; He will defeat Satan, the Antichrist, the false prophet and all their followers; He will establish His earthly kingdom; and, He will ultimately judge fallen humanity.  And He shall reign “for ever and ever.” (Luke 1:33 and Revelation 11:15)

Tomorrow’s devotional recounts a thorough breakdown of the events of Phase One and Phase Two.  Stay prayerfully attentive as our end-times series progresses…more to come!
