WHO AM I? WHAT REALLY MATTERS?
To effectively navigate the twisting and tortuous turns in the
stream of human existence, it is necessary to have a sure and steadfast
knowledge of one’s identity and purpose. I love Pierre Teilhard de
Chardin’s perspective on this issue. He wrote, “We are not HUMAN BEINGS having a spiritual experience. We are SPIRITUAL
BEINGS having a human experience.”
Do you need proof? The Word
declares that, at the dawn of creation of man, “GOD created man IN HIS OWN IMAGE.” (Genesis 1:27)
Furthermore, it is universally understood that “GOD IS A SPIRIT.” (John 4:24) To wit, God designed us to
be far more spiritual than material at the very core of our being.
The question is begged: ‘Why, then, do we have the tendency to
emphasize and engage more so in NATURAL
MATTERS, rather than SPIRITUAL
EXPERIENCES?’
The Apostle Paul admonishes us to retain a strong spiritual focus
while existing on this earthly plain. “If then you were raised with
Christ, SEEK THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE
ABOVE, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God.” (Colossians 3:1)
Jesus Christ poses a related strategic question, which also serves as a
powerful warning: “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole
world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for
his soul?” (Matthew 16:26)
Now hear this! Always
remember that you are MORE than your career, your place of residence, your
wardrobe, your academic degrees, or anything you can achieve or perceive with
your five senses. YOU WERE MADE FOR HIGHER PURPOSES. YOU WERE
CREATED TO HONOR, SERVE AND WORSHIP GOD. So, it is imperative that you
discover the HEAVENLY MEANING in
every earthly matter. In other words, don’t ever allow what counts in
eternity to become lost in the temporary affairs of life.
Stay focused.
