NEVER UNDERESTIMATE OTHERS
Sometimes it is rather tempting to
judge a book by its cover.
In the days when an ice cream sundae
cost considerably less, a little boy entered a coffee shop and sat down at a
table. A waitress placed a glass of
water in front of him. “How much is an
ice cream sundae?” he inquired with a smile.
“Fifty cents,” replied the busy waitress.
The little boy pulled his hand out
of his pocket and studied a number of coins. “How much is a dish of plain ice cream?” he asked
timidly.
Some people were waiting for a table
so the waitress was now growing impatient. “Thirty-five cents,” she snarled with
unbridled contempt.
The little boy again counted his
coins. “I’ll have the plain ice cream,” he decided.
The waitress brought the ice cream
to his table and quickly walked away. The
boy finished, paid the cashier and departed.
When the waitress came back, she swallowed hard at what she saw
there. Placed neatly beside the empty
dish were two nickels and five pennies, the little lad’s relatively generous and
thoughtful tip.
My friends, it is far easier to
judge and criticize than it is to appreciate and accept. Let’s embrace the latter, not the former. After all, only GOD knows the hidden value of
the human heart.
