COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS
During my youth, our
church sang a hymn by Johnson Oatman, Jr., which served as a reminder of the
PRAISE MINDSET we should maintain all the days of our lives. Its chorus
goes like this:
Count your blessings,
name them one by one…
Count your blessings,
see what God has done…
Count your blessings,
name them one by one…
Count your many
blessings, see what God has done!
These simple song lyrics
echo the spiritual resolution of the Psalmist David: “I will bless the Lord at
all times, his praise shall continually be in mouth.” (Psalm 34:1)
Think. There are
more things to be grateful for than one might imagine.
We are alive.
We have a reasonable
portion of health and strength.
We are absolutely
aware of ourselves and our surroundings.
We have someone who
loves us in spite of our shortcomings.
We have a mind to live
for Christ, to love Him and to follow His Word.
And the list goes on,
and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on...
Many are too young to
remember, but the legendary Bing Crosby made famous a secular song, which was also
entitled, “Count Your Blessings”:
When I'm worried and I
can’t sleep,
I count my blessings
instead of sheep,
And I fall asleep…counting
my blessings…
When my bankroll is
getting small,
I think of when I had
none at all,
And I fall asleep…counting
my blessings
I challenge you to try
it.
Lift up your head, my
friend. Don’t doubt. Don’t despair.
Count…
Sisters and brothers,
be continually blessed and please (above all else) MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY TO
MEET YOUR SOON COMING KING. Maranatha!
