REFLECTED LIGHT

REFLECTED LIGHT

I overheard someone last night talking about moonlight.  Although it is an apparently beautiful phenomenon, it does not actually exist at all.  Technically, there is no such thing as moonlight.  The ‘light’ that we observe, ostensibly emanating from the moon, is merely reflected light.  In truth, THE SUN is the source.  The moon is merely the ‘mirror’ that reflects a modicum of solar brilliance and transcendent glory.

In this sense, we are very much like the moon.  For we have no true light, in and of ourselves.  The light that apparently shines forth from our attitudes and actions is the indirect reflection of THE SON.  It’s the reason why we steadfastly refuse to boast or boost our egos as we seek to build the Kingdom of God.  According to St. Paul, such superficial self-exaltation “is excluded” from the lives of true believers. (Romans 3:27)

Nevertheless, we are quite contented with our role.  Indeed, what an honor and privilege it is for us to be counted worthy to reflect the life-giving illumination that shines forth from the LIGHT OF THE WORLD.  To reflect Him is to honor Him.  And those who honor Him, in turn, will be honored by Him.

“But now THE LORD saith…them that honor me I will honor, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.” (I Samuel 2:30b)  This is the Word of the Lord.

Several years ago, I was inspired to hear The African Children’s Choir singing “Shine, Jesus, Shine.”  Its lyrics go something like this:

Lord, the Light of Your Love is shining,
In the midst of the darkness shining,
Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us,
Set us free by the truth You now bring us,
Shine on me.  Shine on me.

As we gaze on Your kindly brightness.
So our faces display Your likeness.
Ever changing from glory to glory,
Mirrored here may our lives tell Your story.
Shine on me.  Shine on me.

Shine, Jesus shine,
Fill this land with the Father’s glory.
Blaze, Spirit blaze,
Set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river flow,
Flood the nations with grace and mercy.
Send forth Your Word,
Lord and let there be light.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of GOD, and not of us. (II Corinthians 4:7)

We believers are His reflected light. (John 8:12 ~ Matthew 5:14-16)

Sisters and brothers, be continually blessed, and please (above all else) MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY TO MEET OUR SOON COMING KING. Maranatha!
