THE GIFT OF HONOR
Gary Smalley and John Trent co-wrote an important book
entitled “The Gift of Honor.” It relates
the importance of purposefully expressing honor and demonstrating it in family
relationships. One of their anecdotal
stories involves Keith Hernandez, one of the most outstanding athletes to play in
the National Baseball League.
Keith achieved lifetime milestones: a 300 batting average and numerous Golden
Glove awards for excellence in fielding. Additionally, he received a batting
championship award, the Most Valuable Player award, and won in the World
Series. However, with all his significant
accomplishments, he missed out on something crucially important – his father’s
acceptance and the family recognition that what he had accomplished was truly
valuable. In a candid interview about
his relationship with his father, Keith remarked: “One day I asked my father: Dad,
I have a lifetime 300 batting average. What
more do you want? His father replied, Yes,
but someday you're going to look back and say, I could have done more.”
Our family members are never likely to achieve
perfection, since no one in this world ever does. But it is of extreme importance to offer the
most precious and meaningful of gifts, unconditional love.
Sisters and brothers, be continually blessed, and
please (above all else) MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY TO MEET OUR SOON COMING KING.
Maranatha!
