THE REASON FOR THE SEASON
Christmas is not really about the traditional giving and receiving of gifts; it is all about the giving and receiving of The Greatest Gift. E. B. White wrote that our cultural “tendency
to perceive Christmas through its wrappings becomes more difficult with every
year.” Somehow Jesus is relegated to the
backdrop of our festive celebrations. While
there is absolutely nothing wrong with colorful decorations, with beautiful gifts,
or the shared fellowship of sumptuous meals, the true meaning of Christmas can
be lost in the sauce of secular activity.
Its actual significance is simple, yet vitally important
for all to remember: The Son of God became a man to enable men to become the
sons of God.
To wit, Jesus Christ is the world’s panacea, our situational
cure-all, the only reliable answer for all life’s questions and issues. HE is precisely what fallen humanity requires
– past, present and future. If our
greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God
would have sent us a scientist. If our
greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. If our greatest need had been pleasure, God
would have sent us an entertainer. But the
greatest human need is forgiveness and salvation, so God sent to us a Savior.
Christ IS Christmas.
Sisters and brothers, be
continually blessed, and please (above all else) MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY TO
MEET OUR SOON COMING KING. Maranatha!
