EL SIMCHATH GILI

EL SIMCHATH GILI

Every day, I awaken with the comforting awareness that GOD is El Simchath Gili, “my exceeding joy.”  In the poetic lyrics of the Psalmist David, I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise…my God.” (Psalm 43:4)

It is my delight, indeed my privilege and my pleasure, to begin and end every day, every month, every year, every decade of my life, with the intimate knowledge that my JOY ultimately resides in CHRIST JESUS.

Remember this?  Joy is not the equivalency of happiness, which is both situational and transitive.  JOY is the assurance that Christ is at the center of my circumstances.

Why should you walk through each and every day with JOY?  Because, according to The Holy Writ, “with joy you shall draw water from the wells of salvation.” (Isaiah 12:3)  Therefore, even in tempestuous and troubled times, we shall never ever surrender to doubt or despair.  Rather, we will “COUNT IT ALL JOY” and allow our absolute faith in our good, gracious and great GOD to carry us through. (James 1:2)

Sisters and brothers, the written will of our Lord and Savior is simply this: “That My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” (John 15:11)  Erase the frown.  Eradicate the worry.  Make a JOY DECISION – and be continually blessed!

EXPONENTIAL

EXPONENTIAL

Although the term, “exponential,” has mathematical roots, in common usage it means “growing, increasing, expanding, spreading and ascending.” (Dictionary.com – Thesaurus.com)  It is a powerful portrait of Christ’s great expectations for all His disciples, as we proactively labor to build the Kingdom of God.

The parables of the Kingdom, set forth by our Savior during His earthly ministry, are clear reminders of the exponential growth and exceptional requirements that are part and parcel of the Kingdom. The Parable of the Sower, The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares, The Parable of the Mustard Seed, The Parable of the Leaven, The Parable of the Hidden Treasure, The Parable of the Pearl of Great Price and The Parable of the Dragnet, altogether remind us that being a Christian means far more than showing up for worship services or conforming to creeds and codes of conduct. (Matthew, chapter 13)

Christ commands the exponential, both in terms of our willingness to invest freely of personal time, talent and treasure, and in terms of our ultimate fruitfulness and productivity. (Genesis 1:28 - John 15:1-8 - Colossians 1:10)

The rich young ruler, who had meticulously observed the Law of Moses from his youth, was required by The Master to sell and share those things he treasured most.  Indeed, this constituted a very unique requirement from The Living Word, who is absolutely capable of discerning “the thoughts and intents” of the human heart.  (Luke 18:18-23 – John 1:1 – Hebrews 4:12)   While Christ seldom demands such stringency and totality in giving, because He is our Creator, our Savior and our Lord, we are His purchased possession and property. (Ephesians 1:14)  Therefore, HE has every right to request and require our absolute best.

Remember: The manufacturer always determines the purpose, value and use of the finished product; these existential variables are never determined by the product itself.  And so it is in the realm of The Spirit.  JESUS IS LORD!  So let’s stop embracing any and all self-produced, inflexible agendas; and, let us resolve to inquire of The Manufacturer as to WHO we are, what we must do, and how, WHERE and WHEN we must do it. (Psalm 37:23)  This is our safest and surest pathway to the exponential, or, as Christ called it, the abundant life. (John 10:10)

Sisters and brothers, live daily in earnest expectation of the EXPONENTIAL…and be continually blessed!

PROCRASTINATION IS THE THIEF OF LIFE

PROCRASTINATION IN THE THIEF OF LIFE

Sandile Duma of the Republic of South Africa submitted a rather fascinating story that strikes me as profound truth.  I will share it with you.

Romeo and Juliet: The Delay of the Friar

Having read William Shakespeare’s famous book with that terribly tragic ending, I discovered a human loophole that caused (but might have possibly prevented) the demise of the two passionate lovers.

It is the delay of the friar.

The friar used a very slow donkey to ride to the tomb for the purpose of informing Romeo that Juliet was not actually dead (as Romeo had thought), though she was residing temporarily in the place of the dead.  Although the friar made the error of traveling on a very slow beast, heavy storms delayed him even more.

On the other hand, Romeo traveled on a very fast horse, galloping at its top pace, because he was in a hurry to see and be with his beloved, now ‘dead’ Juliet.

While the friar was on his way, Romeo fought guards by the tomb to gain access to his beloved Juliet.  There he saw the love-of-his-life laying quietly, peacefully, beautiful beyond belief, but not breathing.  Romeo cried out in anguish and grief.  Within moments, he committed suicide by ingesting a vial of poison.

When Juliet awakened as planned from her drug-induced coma, she felt the heaviness of her lover on top of her and tried to revive him, but Romeo was gone forever.  Losing all hope, Juliet reached for a sword and took her own life.

The friar was still on his way.  Finally arriving, he beheld the terrifying revelation of the intense love these two young people had held for one another.

Had the friar not been delayed, the lives of these two young people could have been saved.

Had the friar not been delayed, Romeo and Juliet could have had an abundance of life, love and happiness.

At times we delay and suffer unknown consequences for ourselves, and for others.

Bottom-line: If you need to show love to someone, or if you need to be reconciled to someone, do not delay that life-giving process.  Terrible tragedies can be prevented, if you act at a quicker pace.

Do it now…you do not know what weather lies ahead.  Do it now…stop riding that donkey.  Do it now…do not postpone…get to it!  After all, procrastination is not only the thief of TIME.  Indeed, it is the thief of LIFE.

Sisters and brothers, live on purpose, live intentionally, and act expeditiously to fulfill your God-given destiny.  Remember: Your assignment has a definite shelf life.  Act now, without delay, and be continually blessed!

21st CENTURY HERESY: THE PROFESSIONALIZATION OF CHRIST'S CHURCH (Part I)

21st CENTURY HERESY: THE PROFESSIONALIZATION OF CHRIST’S CHURCH (Part I)

Principle Point to Ponder:
Should Christ’s Church be professionally-oriented or Kingdom-oriented?

THE INSTITUTIONAL CHURCH is rapidly falling from grace.  One of the greatest fallacies of our increasingly apostate condition is the proclivity to enthusiastically embrace a humanistic perspective and the pursuit of PROFESSIONALISM vis-à-vis Christ’s command for a culture of KINGDOM.

In John Piper’s book, “We Are Not Professionals: A Plea to Pastors for Radical Ministry,” he presents a profound, ground-shaking commentary on where the institutional church currently resides, versus that place of purpose where the Author and Finisher of faith designs and intends us to be.  Piper petitions, “BANISH PROFESSIONALISM from our midst, oh God, and in its place put passionate prayer, poverty of spirit, hunger for God, rigorous study of holy things, white-hot devotion to Jesus Christ, utter indifference to all material gain, and unremitting labor to rescue the perishing, perfect the saints, and glorify our sovereign Lord.  Humble us, O God, under your mighty hand, and let us rise, NOT AS PROFESSIONALS, but as WITNESSES and PARTAKERS of THE SUFFERINGS OF CHRIST.”

John Piper goes on to say that “The aims of our ministry are eternal and spiritual…and are not shared by any of the professions.  The PROFESSIONALIZATION OF THE MINISTRY is a constant threat to…the gospel.  It is a threat to the profound spiritual nature of our work.  THE WORLD SETS THE AGENDA OF THE PROFESSIONAL MAN; GOD SETS THE AGENDA OF THE SPIRITUAL MAN.  The strong wine of Jesus Christ explodes the wine skins of professionalism.  There is an infinite difference between the pastor whose heart is set on being the aroma of Christ, the fragrance of death to some and eternal life to others.”

Piper’s commentary resonates with Paul’s admonition to the Church of Corinth: “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.  For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.  To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life.  And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.” (II Corinthians 2:14-17, NKJV)

THE CORPORATE MENTALITY that has invaded the institutional church threatens to precipitate our demise, or, at a minimum, to relegate us to universal indifference and irrelevance.

GOD never intended for SERVANT-LEADERS to adapt to (or adopt) THE CORPORATE MODEL.  In fact, exploitative capitalism and rugged individualism are excluded from the template set forth to (and through) the New Testament Church. (Acts 4:32-35)  Rather, the people of God are divinely predisposed to exist in genuine koinonia, agape and communal sharing.  Thus, THE CHURCH is bigger than any one individual and must never be about personal advancement or empire-building.  THE CHURCH is birthed intentionally by THE HOLY SPIRIT as A LIVING BEING, declared to be THE BODY OF CHRIST, whose sole purpose is to offer soul-saving salvation to perishing humanity and Word-based edification to emerging disciples.

WHENEVER WE MIRROR ANY SECULAR INSTITUTION, we invite spiritual disaster and cessation of purpose.

Jesus Christ was not dispatched from Heaven as a CEO, a chief executive officer.  And nowhere in scripture do we observe any suggestion or implication that His church should operate as a BUSINESS INSTITUTION or be governed by the CORPORATE BUSINESS MODEL.  Who is this Christ?  “He is THE HEAD OF THE BODY, THE CHURCH, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.” (Colossians 1:18)  For spiritually discerning persons, two questions are begged: 1) Who actually governs the church, CHRIST, or US?   And, 2) Why does the CORPORATE CULTURE AND MINDSET seem to prevail, since it so clearly contravenes the MIND OF CHRIST? (Philippians 2:5-11)

To cite the prophetic and incisive words of Pastor Jack Tebogo Tsoai of The Republic of South Africa, “The Church (Universal) has been under tremendous pressure to adopt unscriptural tactics of THE CORPORATE BUSINESS MODEL into key areas of its structure by power hungry, self serving, title chasing “hirelings,” leading to stale, impersonalized, or ineffective “denominational” or “institutional” conglomerates.  In retrospect, I wonder if the 21st century church hasn’t produced pastors who in reality are not spiritual shepherds as much as they are corporate CEOs.  The same mentality, philosophy, and strategy that drive corporate boardrooms also drive the boardrooms of modern churches.  Pastors act like CEOs, dress like CEOs, talk like CEOs, manage like CEOs, and think like CEOs, hence some find titles and money very attractive at the expense of the truth of the Word of God.”  His remarks are on target, insightful and absolutely reflective of our current state of being.

Surely, it grieves The Holy Spirit of Christ that we now seem to be actualizing the 7th phase (the apostate stage) of The Church Age, which is epitomized by the CHURCH OF LAODICEA.  Jesus Christ commanded the apocalyptic writer, John, to publicly disclose its condition, both as a warning for us and for any who would follow in our footsteps:

Revelation 3:14-22 (NKJV)
14 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: 15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— 18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. 22 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

It is an incredibly accurate and apt description of THE INSTITUTIONAL CHURCH, particularly in AMERICA, where so many promote and celebrate MATERIAL PROSPERITY, as if it is God’s ultimate goal for us.  Unfortunately, many so-called ‘third-world nations’ now seek to emulate us.  That is very much like clamoring for first-class compartments aboard a sinking ship!  In every nation, we must focus on the KINGDOM and pay close attention to what GOD says: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12 and Proverbs 16:25)   It is time now (in these end-times) for THE CHURCH to rise up and be THE CHURCH!  Whether we are ripples, waves, ponds, brooks, streams, or rivers, all believers are proactive and purpose-driven tributaries in pursuit of the oceanic depths of God.  Launch out.  Kingdom first!   Sisters and brothers, be continually blessed…more to come!

THE GOD KIND OF LOVE

THE GOD KIND OF LOVE

Let’s read God’s description of love actualized, and let’s prayerfully evaluate our own attitudes and actions.

I Corinthians 13:1-13 (The Message Bible)
1 If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.
If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.
3-7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
8-10 Love never dies. Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end; understanding will reach its limit. We know only a portion of the truth, and what we say about God is always incomplete. But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled.
11 When I was an infant at my mother’s breast, I gurgled and cooed like any infant. When I grew up, I left those infant ways for good.
12 We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!
13 But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.

GOD IS LOVE.  (I John 4:7-8)  Sisters and brothers, let us walk in love and we will be continually blessed!

THE HANDS OF GOD (Part III)

THE HANDS OF GOD (Part III)

You are a designer original, so none of the seven billion people on Earth can possess your unique hands and fingerprints.  Human hands are powerful, figuratively and literally, but our strength pales in comparison to the omnipotent hands of God!  Thus, no human being can honestly boast of self-actualized success.  Ultimately, we are products of the handiwork of GOD. (James 1:17)

Arguably, approaching the end of Jesus’ earthly ministry, HIS HANDS became increasingly significant.

Jesus before Pilate:
“I find in him no fault at all.”  As a matter of fact, Pilate concluded, I am washing my hands of the innocent blood of this man. (John 19:4)
Jesus before Sanhedrin:
“Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the RIGHT HAND of the power of God.” (Luke 22:69)
Jesus at Calvary:
It was not insignificant or accidental that the ENEMY sought to pierce THE HANDS OF JESUS!   You see, CHRIST’S HANDS are literal extensions of CHRIST’S ANOINTING!   And Satan will do everything that he can do to attack our anointing!  In the words of Jesus, “The thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy.” (John 10:10)

Nevertheless, Satan was unaware of God’s secret plan to undo his world system and to institute His Kingdom.  So while he was plotting and planning the persecution and pain of Jesus, he was actually setting up Christ for the full release of His power!  Likewise, our personal pain is merely a set-up.  Our pain and pressure are preludes to the fulfillment of God’s promise of power, productivity and promotion.

Satan simply did not know what he was doing when he scammed and schemed to get Jesus on the cross!  Scripture confirms this fact.  “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would NOT have crucified the Lord of glory.” (I Corinthians 2:7-8)

ONLY GOD could devise a plan in which the ONLY ONE in the universe who ‘could’ CONDEMN US was the ONLY ONE who was ready, willing and able to DIE FOR US!  So we find Jesus, at His hour of death, fully at peace, and declaring with power, “Father, INTO THY HANDS I commend my spirit.” (Luke 23:46)  In other words, ‘Satan, you have not taken my life.  “I LAY IT DOWN!” (John 10:18)

Jesus’ pronouncement was a borrowed plea from the Psalmist David (Psalm 31:5), but on the cross, Jesus transformed the frantic cry of humanity into a full-fledged statement of faith:

Father…I am in Your hands!’   My life and times are in Your hands!
I come, Father, both as Priest and Sacrifice, as One-with-God and as one-with-man!
I come, Father, in the volume of the Book that is written of me, and I delight to do Thy will!
I come, Father, once and for all, as the unblemished Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’

So JESUS experienced the agony of the cross and bore the awesome burden of humanity’s collective sins.  He took the power and penalty of sin into HIS HANDS…and He died for us.

HOWEVER…on the third day morning…JESUS rose with total victory, saying “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” (Matthew 28:18)  ALL POWER…is IN MY HANDS!  “I am he who lives and was dead…and behold, I am alive for evermore…and have the keys of hell and of death.” (Revelation 1:18)

Jesus at His Ascension:
“So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the RIGHT HAND of God.” (Mark 16:19)

Right now, Jesus Christ is our “High Priest, passed into the heavens,” One who can be “touched with the feeling of our infirmities.” (Hebrews 4:14-15)  Right now, Jesus Christ is “the one Mediator between god and men” who is seated “on the RIGHT HAND OF THE POWER OF GOD.” (I Timothy 2:5 – Luke 22:69)  And now,  “he ever liveth to make intercession” for the people of God! (Hebrews 7:25)

That’s precisely what the writer of the Book of Hebrews referenced when he said: “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets.  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.  And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands.” (Hebrews 1:1-3;10)

We are FOREVER IN HIS HANDS.  Therefore, we must give Our Creator permission to Use His Hands to Shape Our Hands into “His good pleasure,” so we can be equipped and empowered “to do His will,” so we can be effectively USED BY GOD! (Philippians 2:13 – II Thessalonians 11:1 – Hebrews 13:21)

The Hands of God are at work all through our lives!  Therefore, we should never become alarmed or fearful due to temporary pain and pressure.  Indeed, “we are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.  Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, THAT the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.” (II Corinthians 4:9-10)

LORD, our very lives are in Your Hands!  Our total surrender to YOU is the position, place and power of covenantal blessing. (II Corinthians 1:20)  Therefore, our constant cry is simply this: HAND-LE US LORD!  HAND-LE US…so that we might be true ambassadors who will reflect and reproduce YOUR KINGDOM in the earth!  Sisters and brothers, be continually blessed!

THE HANDS OF GOD (Part II)

THE HANDS OF GOD (Part II)

You are a designer original because, of the seven billion people alive on Planet Earth, no one has your particular hands or fingerprints.  Our hands are truly powerful, both figuratively and literally.  However, despite the power and potential resident in human hands, it all pales in comparison to the omnipotent hands of God!  Thus, no human being can boast of any degree of self-actualized or self-attained success.  Indeed, every bit of our goodness and usefulness is the handiwork of GOD. (James 1:17)  Herein is the uniqueness of humanity.  As God’s creative finale, we are touched (directly) by the hands of God.

Bottom-line: ALL OF US continually stand in need of a touch by THE MASTER’S HAND!  But many err, not knowing one simple truth: The KEY to receiving GOD’S HAND…is seeking GOD’S FACE. (Psalm 27:8)

There is a direct cause and effect connection between our hands and God’s hands.  That is, what we do with our hands has a direct impact on what GOD does with His hands.

Therefore, Psalm 134:2 invites us to “LIFT [OUR] HANDS in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord.”  Therefore, I Timothy 2:8 requires us to “LIFT UP HOLY HANDS, without wrath and doubting.”  And James 4:8 reminds us, “If you draw nigh to God…He will draw nigh to you!”  What we do with our hands has a direct impact on what GOD does with His hands.

In other words, OUR HANDS, lifted in PRAYER AND PRAISE, ACTUALLY MOVE GOD’S HANDS!  As the old song goes, “When PRAISES go up…BLESSINGS come down!”  Our grandparents confirmed this truth via another simple song:  “If I couldn’t say a word, I’d just WAVE MY HANDS!”  JESUS and US…HAND IN HAND…what aN AWESOME TEAM!

Since we are on the same team, perhaps we should develop some Hand Signals with OUR GOD!  How so?  First let’s take a look at the natural, then we’ll better apprehend the spiritual.  Some years ago, I visited my family in Pennsylvania and I attended a professional baseball game featuring the Pittsburgh Pirates versus the Houston Astros.  I observed secret hand signals between the pitcher and the catcher, unknown by the batter and the opposing team.  Through silent hand signals, they were able to communicate the kind of pitch that should be thrown, e.g. a fast ball, a curve ball, etc.  This private communication enabled them to gain an advantage over the opposing team.

Similarly, WE NEED TO DEVELOP HAND SIGNALS with GOD, unknown to our enemy – just in case we might get into a bind and need His help – just in case things get so intense that we cannot speak out loud to Him!   We need spiritual hand signals!  Daily intimacy with Christ is mission critical to this interpersonal communication process.  It is the underlying reason for David’s determination to commune constantly with God, despite temporary situations or setbacks.  He vowed, “I will bless the Lord at all times. His praises shall continually be in my mouth.” (Psalm 34:1)

From the very beginning, the hands of Jesus Christ were anointed. (Acts 10:38)  But there is another reason why there is such supernatural healing virtue in HIS hands.  It is because SCARRED HANDS HEAL BEST!  That is, JESUS CHRIST became OUR WOUNDED HEALER.  In other words, HIS WOUNDS…HEAL…OUR WOUNDS. (Isaiah 53:5)

Just in case you missed the scriptural announcement, we too (GOD’S PEOPLE) are WOUNDED HEALERS.  As ambassadors of Christ, our wounds carry the potential to heal the world’s wounds.  That is one reason why we have gone through so much in our personal and professional lives.  Nevertheless, even when we are wounded, even when our vessels become marred, we are still in THE POTTER’S HANDS! (Jeremiah 18:1-4)

Question: Wouldn’t you rather be in GOD’S HANDS, than in the hands of men?  In case you are wondering what GOD has in Mind for us, the ultimate design of the Creator is to SHAPE US INTO HAND TOOLS!  As CLAY IN THE MASTER’S HANDS, God’s ultimate goal is to SHAPE US INTO HAND TOOLS that are useful and usable by Him!  The intended end-result is this: WE BECOME THE EXTENDED HANDS OF THE LORD!  WE BECOME POWER TOOLS OF CHRIST!  The Apostle Paul wrote to the Roman church, “for you are back from death and you want to be tools in the hands of God, to be used for his good purposes.” (Romans 6:13, The Living Bible)   We are in God’s Hands for a very distinct PURPOSE.  That is, HIS POWER IS ON DISPLAY IN US.  In other words…WE ARE IN HIS HANDS...in order to…BECOME HIS HANDS!

Jesus Christ summarizes our place of power with these words: “These signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall LAY HANDS on the sick, and they shall recover.”  (Mark 16:17-18)

Sisters and brothers, be continually blessed…more to come tomorrow!

THE HANDS OF GOD (Part I)

THE HANDS OF GOD (Part I)

Are you aware that you are a designer original?  Even your hands (apparently small segments of your body) are extraordinary in form and function.  The human hand is comprised of 27 bones, along with numerous ligaments, tendons, muscles, nerves and blood vessels that are common to all people.  However, of the seven billion people living on Planet Earth at this moment, no other person’s hand is an exact duplicate of yours because every hand has its own unique set of fingerprints.  The science of naturopathy (the practice of natural alternative medicine) suggests that there are direct nerve connections, extending from the human hands to every vital organ in the human body.

That being the case, the mere act of clapping one’s hands has the potential to stimulate and strengthen our body organs.  Think about that.  In light of this health connection between hands and heart (for example), we can better appreciate the divine command recorded by the sons of Korah: “Oh, clap your hands, all ye peoples!  Shout to God with the voice of triumph!” (Psalm 47:1, NKJV)  To wit, the clapping of one’s hands is a divine directive, designed to give us life, while simultaneously breaking the power of our chief adversary.  How does this operate?  Implicitly, the clapping of our hands eventually triggers “the voice of triumph,” which is a powerful expression of our faith and a conduit to divine intervention and provision.

Nevertheless, despite the power and potential that are resident within human hands, it all pales in comparison to the hands of God!

“You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.” (Hebrews 1:10)  Scripture suggests that God’s handiwork, i.e. the awesome work of divine hands in all of creation is a source of inspiration and joy.  The Psalmist David writes, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1)  And later he pens, “I will triumph in the works of Your hands.” (Psalm 92:4b)  Thus, no human being can boast of any degree of self-actualized or self-attained success.  Indeed, every bit of it is the handiwork of GOD. (James 1:17)

Herein lies the uniqueness of the human condition.  As God’s creative finale, we are the single entity that was touched (directly) by the hands of God.

It reminds me of my mother’s favorite poem, “The Touch of the Master’s Hand.”  It involves a well worn violin that was scheduled for auction with goods old and new.  There was little expectation about gaining any profit from the old violin since it no longer seemed valuable, beautiful, or useful.  Resigned to this reality, the auctioneer started the bidding for the set-aside violin at the bargain basement price of one or two dollars.  But suddenly, an old grey-haired man appeared on the scene.  Apparently, he was a master violinist.  Picking up the old violin, he “played a melody pure and sweet – as sweet as the angels sing.”  After the master violinist had performed so admirably, the auctioneer upped his bid immediately, from one or two dollars to one or two thousand dollars!

At that point in the poem, two salient lines stand out in memory:
The people cheered, but some of them cried, “We do not quite understand!”
“What changed its worth?”  The man replied, “The touch of the master’s hand.”

That auction scene aptly describes the impact and imperative of Jesus’ earthly ministry.  Everywhere Jesus went, He touched, healed, delivered and set free – with HIS healing hands.  Dr. Luke describes the Source of Christ’s spiritual authority: “How GOD anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for GOD was with Him.” (Acts 10:38)

At the start of Jesus’ public ministry, He entered the synagogue to read Isaiah’s prophetic declaration concerning the Christ who came to redeem humankind:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because he has ANOINTED Me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:17-19 – Isaiah 61:1-2)

Later on, Matthew reveals, “…great multitudes came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they laid them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them.” (Matthew 15:30)

There can be no doubt.  JESUS CHRIST HAS HEALING HANDS!

Whenever Jesus touched people, phenomenal miracles occurred.  Many scriptures validate the fact that (as Emmanuel) God-was-IN-Christ and (as The Holy Spirit) Christ-is-IN-us.  And Jesus Christ makes it a Kingdom priority to Touch ALL MANNER OF People with HIS Healing, LIBERATING AND DELIVERING Hands.

“And JESUS put forth his HAND…” (Matthew 8:3)
“And he stretched forth his HAND toward his disciples…” (Matthew 12:49)
“And immediately JESUS stretched forth his HAND…” (Matthew 14:31)

To be sure, ALL stand in need of the touch of the master’s hand.  But many fail to receive the benefit of this blessing due to a lack of awareness of one simple truth: The KEY to receiving HIS HAND…is seeking HIS FACE.  Sisters and brothers, be continually blessed…more to come tomorrow!

LOVE CONQUERS ALL

LOVE CONQUERS ALL

Let’s face it.  At times it can be challenging to love.  Not everyone is kind and considerate.  Not every one is easy to talk to, to connect with, or simply to be around for a few moments.  What is most difficult, however, is finding the strength, compassion and love to truly forgive, especially when you are been deeply hurt or wounded and the pains are fresh.

Consider the story of a handsome baby boy who was born to a childless couple after eleven years of marriage.  They were a very loving couple and their baby boy quickly became the apple of their eyes.

One morning, when the child was two years old, the husband noticed an open medicine bottle.  He was late for work, so he asked his wife to cap the bottle and put it away.  Preoccupied in the kitchen, his wife totally forgot the matter.

Their toddler spotted the bottle and was immediately drawn to it and was totally fascinated with the bright color of the liquid inside.  Tragically, the child drank the entire contents of the bottle, a medicine which benefited adults in small dosages, but was poisonous to young children.

Soon afterwards, the child collapsed and the mother hurried him to the hospital where he died.  The mother was stunned and terrified.  How could she face her husband and tell him this terrible news?

When the distraught father arrived at the hospital and found their beloved child dead, he looked at his wife and uttered just four words.

What do you think those four words were?

The husband simply said, “I love you darling.”

The husband’s totally unexpected reaction was proactive and positive behavior.  Since their child was dead and could not be brought back to life, there was no upside in finding fault with the mother.  ‘Besides,’ the father thought, ‘If only I had taken a little time to put the bottle away, this would not have happened.’

The blame game would be futile and pointless. The mother had lost her only child, and what she really needed at that moment was genuine consolation, acceptance and love.  This husband looked deep within, and that is exactly what he offered her.

Bottom-line: Let’s treasure the people and blessings we have.  Let’s refuse to multiply anguish, suffering and pain by holding tenaciously to resentment, anger and unforgiveness.

Sisters and brothers, walk in forgiveness (divine and human) and be continually blessed!
