WHAT IS BEAUTY?
Our society seems completely preoccupied with popular notions of physical beauty. In fact, our cultural obsession with the same is clearly evident through images that dominate media. But I love the humor of the rather serious looking President Abraham Lincoln. Regarding beauty, he wrote, “The Lord actually prefers common-looking people. That’s the reason He made so many of them.” Awesome…smile!
On the real, what is beauty? How can we accurately define it? Is it merely a physical matter, or are other aspects of beauty more reflective of its true nature? John Keats concluded In his classic poem, “Ode to a Grecian Urn,” that “beauty is TRUTH…truth beauty…that is all ye know on earth and all ye need to know.”
My friend, it may well be that YOU are far more beautiful than your self-image allows or others imagine since you daily don the countenance and content of truth. Why not gaze into the ‘mirror’ of God’s Word to truly discern where you are situated on Heaven’s scale of spiritual and eternal beauty?
